NISM-Series-VIII: Equity Derivatives Certification Examination

Equity derivatives certification exam by NISM is the one of the popular one due to its high demand.  It is a must for persons associated with dealing of futures and options (Derivatives) segment of a trading member of recognized stock exchange.  Before 2012, each exchange like NSE, BSE have their own certifications like NCFM for approved users.  It was cumbersome for terminal operators to pass each exam separately for every exchange.  With the introduction of NISM equity derivatives certificate exam, passing this single exam is enough to work on any equity derivative segment of any stock exchange in India.  No need to pass separate exam for each stock exchange to register as approved user.

After successfully completing the examination the candidate is expected to have the knowledge about basics of Indian derivatives markets, Its functioning.  Also one should be gain various trading strategies involved both futures and options. Emphasis is also placed on having knowledge of trading, settlement, margin system of derivative markets and various regulatory aspects involved in dealing with derivatives contracts.

Completing derivatives certification exam to work as an approved terminal user provides knowledge to effectively service the clients trading in this segment.  This certification also helps traders to understand the functioning of derivative markets in India.  It also gives them idea about various derivative trading strategies including option trading strategies.  These can be used in improve their own trading effectiveness.

The exam consists of 100 questions each carrying one mark.  It must be completed with in the allotted time of 2 hours.  One must be careful in selecting correct answer as each wrong answer carries negative mark of 0.25% which is equivalent to 1/4th of allotted mark for the question.  The passing score is 60 marks and the validity of the certificate is 36 months (3 Years).

NISM Series I – Currency Derivatives Training

Currency derivatives certification from NISM (National Institute of Securities Market) is for the professionals and other people who are looking for a career in currency trading. It is a mandatory certificate to work as currency trading dealer in stock broking firms and other institutes dealing with currency trading.

After completing this currency derivatives certification which is known as NISM Series I examination, equips the candidates with the knowledge of Currency Market Basics, currency trading with special emphasis to exchange traded currency derivatives in Indian context.  Candidates will also gain knowledge of trading, clearing, settlement and margin system of currency trading in relation to indian markets.  Some common invest strategies using currency derivatives (currency futures and currency options) and regulatory environment of Indian currency derivatives trading are also taught.

NISM Certification for Currency Derivatives is an online multiple choice questions. It is conducted all over India on regular basis.  The duration of the examination is 2 hours.  NISM Series I examination consists of 100 questions with maximum marks of 100.  Each correct answer is awarded with 1 mark and each wrong answer attracts 25% (0.25) penalty.  Negative marks of 0.25 for each wrong answer will be debited from scored marks.  The certificate has validity of 3 years.

NISM Series V-A: Mutual Fund Distributors Certification Examination

Mutual Fund Distributor certification from NISM (National Institute of Securities Market) is for the professionals and other people who are looking for a career in distributing or selling mutual funds in India. It is a mandatory certificate to sell mutual funds as individual distributor or work in any office dealing with selling of mutual funds or as employees of asset management companies.

After completing mutual fund distributor series V examination by NISM candidates can expect to gain knowledge in many aspects of mutual funds structure, various features of mutual funds and their types.  Candidates also gain knowledge of role of mutual funds as an investment option, how to evaluate performance of various types of mutual funds.  Also one can gain knowledge about finding suitable type of mutual fund schemes for their investors.

NISM Series V exam is an online multiple choice examination conducted all over India in many test centers.  The exam consists of 100 questions and the pass mark is 50. Also there are no negative marks for wrongly marked answers.  The certificate is valid for 3 years.

NISM-Series-VI: Depository Operations Certification Examination

Depository operations certification exam by NISM is for persons who are either engaged or employed in an DP (Depository Participant) offices.  It is a mandatory certificate required to be passed by concerned people who deal or interact with clients in relation to securities dealing, investor grievances redressal process, Risk management or internal control, concerned with activities having operational risk etc. over all engaging people with DP operations certification is expected to offer quality depository services to clients.

This exam provides knowledge on various aspects of depository system in India.  It provides knowledge about Depositories key features, its necessity for effective functioning of securities market, various entities involved in the depository system.  Opening of demat accounts, their operations, various types of documents used in depository operations etc can be learned.  Also various activities like de-materialisation, re-materialisation, hypothecation, pledge and trading & settlement and how those functions can be carried out effectively can be learned.

Some of the special features like Rajiv Gandhi Equity Savings Scheme, Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA), foreign portfolio investment and dealing with government securities are also part of this examination.

The examination consists of 100 MCQ questions.  Each question carry one mark and must be completed with in 2 hours time.  Passing score for NISM VI Depository operations certifications is 60% (60 marks). Each wrong answer carries a penalty of 1/4 marks.

NISM Series-X- A&B: Investment Adviser (Level 1&2) Certification Examinations

Two examinations (level 1 and 2) must be passed as a part of Series X to be eligible to register as an investment adviser.  This is relatively new examination in the NISM series.  With the introduction of SEBI (Investment Advisers) Regulations, 2013, there comes the need for these examinations.  Investment adviser regulations are brought in 2013 in to force with the aim of improving investment advisory and related financial services in the country.

To register as investment adviser under SEBI regulations, candidates need to pass both the examinations.  Some Professionals qualified with certifications like CFP (Certified Financial Planner) are exempted from appearing these two examinations.  Such professionals can directly register as investment advisers without appearing for these examinations.  Other people who are involved in investment advisory and to register as such need to pass both the examinations.

Level I examination of Investment adviser certification is similar to other exams as above with respect to pass marks, duration of exam and certificate validity.  It carries a negative mark of 25% for each wrong answer.

Level 2 exam of investment adviser consists of 8 caselets with 4 multiple choice questions of 2 marks each per caselet.  It also consists of 36 multiple choice questions of 1 mark each adding up to 100 marks. Duration of the exam is 2 hours. Passing score is 60 and wrong answers are awarded with 25% penalty.
